Troop 100 2013 Summer Trip BOWRON LAKES HERE WE COME!!!!

posted in: Uncategorized

This time it is real. We are going to Bowron Lakes we have reservations for two groups of 14 each. We have trip permits with BC Parks and
The trip
It will be a 12 day trip.  It will take two days each way to get there and back and 8 days on the water.
The trip looks like it will leave Seattle August 1 and return August 14.  One group will start the lake circuit on August 3 and the other on August 4. The canoe rental period is 8 days, so the last day on the water for the last group will be August 12.  We will start the two day trip back on August 13.
We will review this itinerary (and the rest of the trip plans) with an experienced Bowron Lakes guide that lives in Des Moines.
The length of the circuit is 116.4 km -105.6 km by water and 10.8 km by land (72.7 miles total, 66 water miles and 6.75 miles on foot).
Participants
Scouts must be first class or above (this is the scout’s rank at the end of Family Camp June 16). We are requiring scouts to have their swimming merit badge. All participants (adults and Scouts) must have a passport or recognized equivalent.
In order to have the most scouts as possible we will limit the number of adults to 4 per group, for a minimum of 8 adults.  Our original survey showed 26 interested people (14 scouts and 12 adults). If the trip gets oversubscribed, we will bump adults until we get to the minimum (8), then we will have no choice but to bump scouts. The method for bumping adults or scouts is not yet defined.
The final roster will be available at Family Camp.
Costs
Per person cost will be $300, this will include canoe rental, travel, food on the trail and on the trip. Some amount of personal money would be a good idea (snacks and sodas on the bus, mementos and whatever got left behind) A deposit of $150 per person will be required if a participant is bumped the deposit will be refunded. Checks should be made out to Troop 100 and mailed or handed to Ken Dunkelberg. (I’ll try to be at the church before and after meetings.)
