Additional Summer Hikes Planned

posted in: Cool Opportunity

For any and all scouts not to going to Alaska this summer, there are alternate hikes being planned. Let us know if you are interested.

Hike A – August 4 – 7, Goat Rocks WildernessScenic hike in the South Cascades, an easier hike with limited elevation gain and loss.  Sean Duggan leading.

Note the corrected date of Aug. 4 – 7!   The Goat Rocks hike will be geared towards younger scouts, although it is open to all.

  • We are looking for one more adult to help Sean lead the Goat Rocks

Possible Hike B – either July 27 – 31, or August 3 – 7. Whatcom Pass, North Cascades. 34 mile hike, with a potential for a few more miles. Also scenic! Probable crossing of a river by cable car. Fun! Whatcom Pass hike is a bit more challenging; however; it is open to all who have the ability.

  • We are looking for 2 to 3 adults to lead the Whatcom Pass

These hikes are open to anyone who is interested.

In addition to getting out backpacking in the mountains, these hikes are meant to be educational. The scouts will be involved in learning to read Green Trails maps, planning for meals, etc. The adults going can be learning right along with the scouts. So if you are interested in helping lead one of the hikes, please let us know. You don’t have to be an expert backpacker. (Although a little experience would be preferable.)

In order to plan, we need to know who is interested. Please email right away if your scout or you as an adult leader are interested. Due to limited party size in most areas, adult leadership will be limited to how many we need, not necessarily how many have expressed interest. If you or your scout is interested in the Whatcom Pass hike, please let us know which dates (July or August) are preferable, or if both work.
