Alaska Trip Conditioning Hikes Series

Introducing the Troop Conditioning Series of hikes to help scouts, and adults, prepare for our more challenging, big trips. Everyone is welcome. Scouts and adults signed up for this summer’s Alaska Chilkoot Trail trip are encouraged to participate.

Here’s the schedule:

  • Sunday 4/17 – Little Si (4.7mi, 1,300′ elev gain)
  • Saturday 5/7 – Rattlesnake Ridge (4mi, 1200′ elev gain)
  • Sat/Sun 5/14 – 5/15 – TBD – Want to possibly combine with a Crew trip
  • Sunday 6/5 – Mt Si (8mi, 3,000′ elev gain)
  • Saturday 6/18 – Mt Pilchuck Lookout (5.4mi, 2,500′ elev gain)
  • Sat/Sun 7/16 – 7/17 – Snow Lake overnight (7.2mi, 4,400′ elev gain) or Summerland Trail overnight (12mi, 2,950 elev gain)

We will start with some easier hikes to help get everyone confident with hiking. For an added challenge: carry a backpack with 1 – 2 gallons of water or more for added strength building.

Look for details about each hike in upcoming issues of this newsletter.

Sunday, June 5 – Mount Si

Let’s bag this local favorite early Sunday morning. Meet at the TUMC parking lot at 7:00 am sharp. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and your ten essentials. Additional weight is optional. Note this a strenuous hike for most people. Please use your good judgement and bring your Discover Pass if you plan to drive. We’ll grab a frozen treat after the hike to cool our heels. Saturday, June 18 – Mount Pilchuck Lookout

Gorgeous, 360-degree views of the Sound, Mt Baker, Mt Rainier, and surrounding mountains await at the top of this peak. Originally built in 1921 on top of a granite spire, this lookout is not to be missed. Stay tuned for more information on meeting times and sign ups. If you would like to continue your adventure with Crew, stay the night instead of hiking down the slope. Countless stars and a breathtaking sunrise await. Northwest Pass required for all drivers.
