Know Your Merchandise: <\/h3>

We sell wreaths, garland, tree stands and 7 different types of trees:<\/p>\n

\n\u2022 Sheared Douglas
\n\u2022 Natural Douglas<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

#1 Job: Customer Service<\/h3>

\u2022 Greet the customer.
\u2022 Offer help and explain the general layout.
\u2022 Help as needed, but don't hover. It's OK to work with other customers or sweep the lot while they decide.
\u2022 Carry the tree they select to the shack area.
\u2022 Offer to trim the butt off the tree. Unless they ask otherwise, be sure to cut as little as possible.
\u2022 Give the customer the tag from the tree and ask them to pay for it at the shack.
\u2022 Be sure to point out the wreaths we have for sale.
\u2022 Offer to load the tree. Trees can be awkward to handle so get help. Make sure that the tree is secure, and that the top of the tree is aimed towards the back of the vehicle.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

How to Measure a Tree<\/h3>

We measure the height of the tree from the ground to the point at which the longest star branch touches the trunk of the tree when it\u2019s bent up. This includes up to 12 inches of trunk (called the \"handle\").\u00a0 See diagram<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Collecting Payment<\/h3>

All payments are handled by the adults in the shack. We accept checks, cash and credit\/debit cards. There\u2019s a jar for tips in the shack. Never ask for tips, but thank people if they offer. All tips go into a general tip fund; they don\u2019t go to any Scout personally. They\u2019re used for special events like the pizza and a movie night in June<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Restock the Lot<\/h3>

\u2022 When you sell a tree you should replace it with a similar tree (so we have a full selection out at all times).
\u2022 Make sure the tree has been accurately tagged and the tag is secure and visible.
\u2022 Shake each tree really well to remove any old, dead needles caught up among all the current year\u2019s foliage.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Clean Up!<\/h3>

\u2022 Sweep up needles
\u2022 Clean up the trunk ends
\u2022 Pick up strings and other trash
\u2022 Separate out the clean green (tree parts) and recycle items separate from the other trash.<\/p>\n

Do’s<\/h3>

Dress for the weather and plan to be working outside for your whole shift. Even if it\u2019s not raining, it\u2019s wet, and often cold, working on the lot. Wear a water resistant jacket and layers (it\u2019s easier to remove layers than to be cold and uncomfortable for 3 hours!).<\/p>\n

\u2022 Come fed, not hungry \u2013 there are no breaks for eating. And bring water.
\u2022 Bring work gloves (there are a limited number of gloves to borrow \u2013 it is worth investing in your own pair of work gloves).
\u2022 Check with an adult if you\u2019re not sure what to do next.
\u2022 Be ready to drop what you're doing as soon as a customer arrives.
\u2022 Be very careful with the trees: they\u2019re expensive and can break if not handled carefully.
\u2022 Be up-beat, cheerful and polite.
\u2022 Say \u201cthank you\u201d!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
